Sustainabiz working with the construction industry to move towards zero waste
A forum was held on 25 June 2010 with key stakeholders from the construction industry within the Waikato region to identify strategies and projects to help move the industry towards zero waste in the region.
Some of the key projects which are being developed as a result of this forum include:
- materials flow audit of construction waste in the Waikato region, to identify needs for improved resource recovery facilities
- scoping of a regional resource recovery park- it is hoped this will form the basis of a collaborative application to the Waste Minimisation Fund in 2011.
Sustainable Local Government Forum
Waikato Regional Council has held ongoing forums for territorial authorities from around the Waikato and Bay of Plenty to discuss ideas and action plans for making their councils' operations more sustainable. Waikato Regional Council recognises the need to be taking leadership on this issue and is committed to reducing its own carbon footprint through improved energy efficiency measures, waste reduction, fleet efficiencies and an in-house travel plan.
