Carbon $ave

Carbon $ave was a one year pilot project run over the 2009/2010 financial year. The aim of the project was to help develop models of resource efficient business practice around the Waikato region.

Some of the results of the Carbon $ave project were:

  • 17 medium sized businesses participated over 12 months and were provided with tailored 'resource efficiency' plans to help them reduce waste, energy and fuel use within their operations
  • several businesses have already been able to report significant savings in energy, waste and dollars as a result of actions implemented
  • all businesses who participated provided positive feedback and many commented on how impressive it was that sustainabiz were looking to work alongside the business community.

Hospitality workshops

In 2009, Sustainabiz ran free sustainability workshops for the hospitality industry in Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Aroha, Taupo, Huntly and Putaruru.

The workshops provided an opportunity for people to hear how others in the industry have adopted and benefited from sustainable practices. Attendees went away with some concrete actions to implement.

Actions that have been implemented by businesses since the workshops include implementation of, and improvements to recycling systems, installing low energy lighting and setting up of worm farms or other systems to compost organic waste.
